Two weeks after Motorola unveiled the 2014 version of its flagship Moto X in India, the device will be available for purchase on Flipkart post midnight. The 2nd generation Moto X has been priced at Rs 31, 999, which is Rs 10,000 more than its predecessor.
The new Moto X features a 5.2-inch Full HD display – an upgrade from last year’s Moto X which had a 720p screen. Also there’s Corning Gorilla Glass to protect the screen from scratches and some new custom backs, including a black leather-feel panel and a wood panel. It also runs on a faster 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor – a notch up from the 1.7GHz processor. It’s backed by 2GB of RAM and is expected to come in 16GB and 32GB variants.
There’s also an upgraded 2300mAh battery, which Motorola claims can last for an entire day’s use. The new Moto X ships with a 13MP camera up from the 10MP one in last year’s phone, and has a 2MP camera on the front. There’s a dual LED ring flash and, according to Motorola, it helps illuminate darker areas of your shots without being too harsh. The camera also supports Ultra HD 4K video recording, although how it affects the battery consumption of the smartphone remains to be seen.
Some of the new softwares features in the camera include the Best shot ability where the camera starts taking a bunch of pictures even before you click and then shows you the best shots taken to choose from based on smiles, motion blur, etc.
The new Moto X runs Android 4.4 and you can expect the next Android L to reach this phone too. The Moto Voice assist has got some upgrades as it now allows users to share a Facebook status update, name the smartphone and give the smartphones commands like “hey take a selfie”. The Moto X will then switch on the front camera and also keep a timer ready to tell you to get ready for the selfie. More on this once we’ve reviewed the phone in detail.
Other Motorola features include Moto Migrate (which allows user to import their contacts, videos and photos from other smartphones), Moto Assist, (which allows users to set actions on the smartphone such as a regular no-disturb hour) and Moto Alert (which lets the smartphone alert your friends or family during emergencies).
